Film Noir

Daniel and I have been watching a lot of film noir lately.  It started a few months ago with The Maltese Falcon starring Humphrey Bogart, one of the classic film noir stars.  Last night we watched The Asphalt Jungle and tonight we watched L.A. Confidential, starring Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, and Danny DeVito.  I was surprised at how good L.A. Confidential was.  It had the right feeling of a film noir movie, but with a bit more gore.  I don’t know if I liked it being in color.  Film noir is a genre that I feel is really meant to be viewed in black and white.

It’s such an interesting film genre.  All the men wear dapper suits, and all the women always look so glamorous, even when they’re a mess.  Daniel and I really want to watch more Humphrey Bogart films, but the Multimedia Center seems to have all of his films on restricted loan, which usually means that they are reserved for classes.

What are some of your favorite film noir movies?

We won't need a detective for this mystery: Where did all of the Abbott's go? In Daniel's tummy, of course.
