Bald Head Island Day 3

Today was phenomenal.  The weather was even better than yesterday.  After everyone woke up, Daniel and I went on a long, vigorous walk with his parents.  Then we went to the beach, of course.  We didn’t go to East Beach today, but instead went to the southern point on the island via the Shoals Club.  I didn’t spend too much time in the ocean but instead tried to tan some more.  It’s a slow process.  We also went swimming in the pool at the Shoals Club before coming back to the house for lunch.

The Shoals Club

After lunch, Daniel and I went on a long, relaxing bike ride around the island in search of some mint for mojitos.  We found none.  But we did stop at Old Baldy and went inside the cute little chapel they have on the island.

It's so tiny!

After our bike ride, we were pretty tired so we each took a rest until Nicole got bored and we decided to go for a drive around the island in one of the golf carts.  We hadn’t been to Middle Island yet, so we decided to drive through it, over all of the gravel roads that have yet to be paved.  Unfortunately we drove through during low tide, so the marsh was a little stinky.  But it’s a lovely drive and it feels very prehistoric.  I’m pretty sure dinosaurs live on this island, but I have yet to spot them.

For dinner, Daniel and his mom made a delicious pot of boiled shrimp, potatoes, corn and kielbasa.  I’m getting hungry again just thinking about it.  Marty and Susan and their group joined us and brought brownies for dessert.  It was all delicious.

Yummy.

After dinner, we went to the beach access closest to the beach house to watch the sunset.  Sometimes there are clouds that hover just above the ocean, obscuring the sun in its final moments of sinking.  This was not the case tonight.  It turned out to be beautiful.

Spectacular.

Then we came back and played Cranium.  I love Cranium.  I’ve played it a lot.  It can be a very frustrating game because you do have to work with a team and if you are not in sync with your teammates it can be a disaster.  I was on a team with Marty and Daniel.  And Daniel and I were very in tune with each other.  So despite our team lagging behind after the first few rounds, we made an excellent comeback and ended up winning the game.  It was a blast, but I think people were pretty tired towards the end.  Perhaps next time we should do a shorter board or fewer teams so that it moves a little bit faster.

I could not have asked for a better day on Bald Head.
